Tarahumara people!

Tarahumara people!

Are they really from this planet?

Best runners in the world

This blog post will be dedicated to Tarahumara people from Mexico state. Writer and a passionate runner  Christopher McDougall memorably describes them in the book-must-be-read "Born to run". He narrate about  them as a mythical tribe of superathletets  who live in the canyons of northwestern Mexico. These people run outstanding distances without even a proper shoes, more like flip flops.

Tarahumara people or ‘Running people’  who can run 300+ km in around 50 hours! Sounds impossible, but it is true. Astonishingly, the entire tribe consisting of men, women, old and young, every one of them is capable of running at least 100+ km in a single run, without shoes. Such extreme feat of endurance has never been seen among humans anywhere else in the world.

What is their secret

Their secret is the simple lifestyle. They live in high altitude mountains, that is very healthy for the body of athlete. They are described as a shy people that guide a simple, economic lifestyle in all aspects of their living. Well known runner Scott Jurek once run with them and saw their little secret, if they stop running they immediately  sit down on the ground so they can preserve their feet. They either run barefoot or in some type of sandals, and thanks to this they have extremely strengthen their feet. Even in the young age they learn to walk and run in parallel.

Destructive influence of modern civilization

With modern western lifestyle and all it's benefits that modern man have, comes all the negativity to mother earth and the people that are still cherishing living-according-nature-rules. Deforestation is a major problem for Tarahumara people because is threatening their running paradise and the landscape. But considering that the nature is smarter and brighter than a modern man planet will cure herself and put the destructive man in his place. Eye for eye tooth for tooth logic.

Fun fact ☝☝☝

They chain-smoked fierce black tobacco, ate a ton of carbs and barely any meat, and chugged so much cactus moonshine that they are either drunk or hungover an estimated one-third of each year. Despite all that's been said they are still the best runners in the world!

Conclusion:

I so envy their strength and passion.... Cheers Paola 💓
